BC Sports Hall of Fame Announces Class of 2026 Inductees

The BC Sports Hall of Fame has revealed its latest group of inductees, featuring five athletes, three builder-coaches, one team, a pioneer, a media member, and the winner of the W.A.C. Bennett Award. The announcement was made at a ceremony in Vancouver on April 15.

Athlete Category

The athlete inductees include Doug Brown (football), Silvana Burtini (soccer), Justin Kripps (bobsleigh), Georgia Simmerling (cycling/skiing), and Les Wilson (soccer). These individuals have achieved greatness in their respective fields, inspiring others through their passion, perseverance, and commitment to excellence.

Builder-Coach Category

The builder-coach inductees are Ossie Chavarria (baseball), Jim Clive (beach volleyball), and Barb Harris (field hockey). They have made significant contributions to their sports, serving as coaches, managers, and organizers, and have helped shape the next generation of athletes.

Team Category

The 2006 Vancouver Whitecaps women’s soccer team is also being inducted. This team won the W-League championship in 2006 and featured a talented roster of Canadian international players.

Pioneer Category

Dr. Bruce Forster is being recognized as a pioneer in sports medicine. He has developed innovative imaging programs and has worked with numerous athletes and organizations, including the Olympics.

Media Category

John McKeachie is being inducted in the media category. With a career spanning over 40 years, he has worked in TV, radio, and print media, becoming one of BC’s most popular sports personalities.

W.A.C. Bennett Award

The winner of the W.A.C. Bennett Award is John Mills, a key leader in sport development in BC and Canada. He has served on various boards and committees, including Canada Basketball and Sport BC, and has played a significant role in shaping the sports landscape in the province.

Induction Gala

An induction gala is planned for this fall to celebrate the Class of 2026. The event will honor the achievements of these individuals and teams, recognizing their contributions to sport in British Columbia.
